To coincide with the anniversaries of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs, an exhibition at the Arts and Disability Forum gallery, supported by Unite against Hate will showcase the work by a skilled disabled artist Stacia Blake (4 August to 23 September). Following visits to Japan, Stacia Blake set herself a lifetime’s target to create artworks containing a circle for each person who died during or in the aftermath of the 1945 bombings – an estimated 246,000 people.
The exhibition will feature a selection of Stacia’s works, including paintings alongside an installation of origami cranes, a symbol of longevity and peace. The installation will be a beautiful and unthreatening physical manifestation of the will for peace. Some of the cranes exhibited will be made by Stacia Blake, other will be contributed by community and some MLAs via participative art sessions.
