The Belfast Inclusion Festival comprises some 45+ events which will take place throughout the city during the month of June. All events are free of charge and, although some of these will take place in the city centre, most will be in local communities. Organised and coordinated by the South Belfast Roundtable on Racism (SBRTR), a group comprising more than 85+ organisations from the statutory, voluntary and community sectors whose joint efforts and activities are all directed at tackling racism and promoting inclusion. In previous years, the Inclusion Festival has taken place in the south of the city but in 2010, this initiative by the SBRTR is Belfast-wide with the support of PEACE III, OFMDFM and Belfast City Council. B inclusive: an exhibition of artwork from Belfast’s integrated schools | 1 -30 June | Belfast Waterfront
Students contributed their ideas about what it means to feel ‘welcome’ and ‘included’ in Belfast. This activity was done either individually or in small groups and schools were asked to use some democratic means by which to choose five images to submit.
Looking in: an exhibition of photographs by Donal McCann | 2 – 29 June | Belfast Waterfront
Local photographer Donal McCann has been working extensively with the Welcome Organisation and it’s clients for the past 10 months. His new body of work is raw and emotive. Shot in Belfast City, Donal has captured the essence of the homeless community at their most vulnerable.
La Nocha Latina – multicultural event | 10 June | Ten Square Hotel
A lively event programme with a wide variety of performances and displays including: salsa and merenge (including salsa display from the Dominican Republic), percussion from Congo, samba and traditional music from Brazil, Portuguese pimba, African kisomba, kuduro, zouk, funana, semba and gumbe (plus dance performance). World Cafe event: Imagine if the world was a village of 100 people…| 12 June | Willowfield Parish Church
Most of us have moved school, job, house, town or city at some time in our lives. Most of us probably know someone who has moved country as well. This is an opportunity to come along and meet people from different parts of the world and to talk about why people move – in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. This is a family-friendly event catering for adults and children alike. Free refreshments. Live music provided by Beyond Skin.
A Muslim festival for all women | 12 June | Belfast Islamic Centre
Come and view the Belfast Islamic Centre and share Islamic culture. This will include: henna painting, food from different countries, and a display of clothes and a gallery of books, photos and jewellery. A creche will be provided with plenty of activities for young children. All women welcome!
