The Engagement, Integration & Diversity programme in conjunction with the Good Relations District Council programmes are please to announce a series of events to be held across the CAN PEACE III partnership in recognition of Holocaust Memorial Day.
Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) has been held in the UK since 2001, the date 27 January was chosen for HMD because it was on this date in 1945 that the largest Nazi killing camp Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated. HMD is about remembering the victims and those whose lives have been changed beyond recognition of the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and the ongoing atrocities today in Darfur.
HMD provides us with an opportunity to honour the survivors but it’s also a chance to look to our own lives and communities today. By learning from the lessons of the past, we can create a safer, better future.
The Engagement, Integration & Diversity programme supported by the European Union’s PEACE III programme, will host a Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) Remembrance evening in the Theatre at the Mill, Newtownabbey on Tuesday, 25th January 2011 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
The Remembrance evening aims to memorialize victims of the Holocaust, by bringing together local speakers, music and poetry performances. It is a chance for all of us to make our voices and hopes for a shared future heard. Event is free, light reception to close. All members of the local community are invited to join the commemoration.

Laura: Jesus said to love everyone like he loves you, feed them, cloth them and shelter them and let him do the judging. It did not say that people who are gay are the exception to this rule....
