Belfast will experience a taste of India when the ‘Festival of Colours’ one of the most colourful and vibrant festivals in India, is celebrated in St. George’s Market on Sunday 20th March 2011. Known as ‘Holi’ which literally translates to ‘Colour’, the Festival of Colours is a celebration of the coming of Spring, signifying brotherhood and unity.
The festival uses colour to symbolise equality, wherein all the people drenched in different colours, lose their identity to become one.
The festival, developed by ArtsEkta, the proud organisers of the Belfast Mela, is a great family day out and although traditionally an Indian festival, visitors will participate, learn and experience the vibrancy of all cultures that live in Belfast. There will be a variety of entertainment including the UK’s top Bollywood dance group ‘Desi Brave Hearts’, an Asian DJ, local cultural performances and a world food & craft market.
The main highlight of the festival will be the colour powder party where visitors will get the opportunity to throw brightly powdered colour among friends in a party atmosphere. Don’t wear your Sunday best, we’ll supply the colours, you do the rest!
Laura: Jesus said to love everyone like he loves you, feed them, cloth them and shelter them and let him do the judging. It did not say that people who are gay are the exception to this rule....
