‘FOOTBALL COMES 2 TOWN | 28 MAY | CRUSADERS FC, SEAVIEW

FC2T photoOn the 28th May Seaview will witness the launch of pilot event Football Comes 2 Town. A WAG zone and a big outdoor screen to show the Champions League final will be in place for a family community festival that aims to promote good relations and celebrate everything that is good about the beautiful game: fun, friendship, diversity and respect.

Richie Smith, UGS (Unify Global Sport), states: “Around the globe sport has proven to be one of the most effective tools to bring people together from different backgrounds and to improve community relations. This new event concept by UGS aims to showcase not only the game of football itself but also the organisations and initiatives in the local area that carry out a fantastic job in unifying people, such as Crusaders, World Music NI, Homely Planet and Unite against Hate.”

The inclusion of a Spanish team (Real Madrid or Barcelona FC) in the Champions League final means that there will be elements of the programme that aim to showcase the fascinating Spanish culture. Some other surprises will be in place for those that attend the event.

Jeremy Adams, Unite against Hate coordinator said: “The Unite against Hate campaign is delighted to be afforded the opportunity to deliver their message out to a large number of people, who will be attending the Football Comes 2 Town event. Living with diversity is an integral part of modern life in Northern Ireland and we all need to take responsibility for creating an atmosphere where diversity is accepted as normal. ‘Football Comes 2 Town’ provides a great opportunity to challenge and highlight the motions of prejudice and hate through the medium of sport.”

Mark Langhammer: “Crusaders FC welcomes the ‘Football Comes 2 Town’ event, a community event of the sort we are pleased to promote. Seaview is fast becoming an attractive event venue, with Ireland’s first 4G playing surface, new floodlights, new grandstands in construction, together with our traditional, welcoming, family atmosphere.”

UGS has partnered up with the British Red Cross to raise funds and remembering those who suffered from the Japanese Tsunami disaster. So why not consider going an afternoon outing with another family…Girls can relax and chat away in the Wag Zone whilst the boys have fun around the beautiful game.
